It is art fair time in D:F:  Seeing this much art next to each is always a little discombobulating but it always provokes questions and it always inspires.  Here is a piece that made me smile.

April.22.2008 The Pennsylvania Primaries

Today is the Pennsylvania primaries and for the past 7 weeks the candidates have been criss-crossing the state and have probably seen this image more than once.  This is an early morning image taken on the the Turnpike going towards Philly.  I hope the right man wins!

April.20.2008 Eero Saarinen & Warren Platner

For those in the know, this is a chair by Warren Platner and a table by Eero Saarinen. Part 2 of 5.

April.19.2008 Florence Knoll

I've recently renovated a modern house in Mexico City and during the cleaning process I came across a Mexican 'construction' trade magazine from the late 60s extolling the virtues of the modern design that is so much in demand at the moment.

This is the first of five entries taken from that spread in Esia Magazine.  This one has a quote from Florence Knoll that says, "A good design is the sum of the experience of a designer."

With the Pennsylvania primaries in a few days I thought it appropriate to post an image of a Harrisburg wall.  To me it shows the deterioration of the whole state.  It is quite surreal for me sitting thousands of miles away in Mexico City and hearing places like Lancaster, Harrisburg, Mifflintown and Juniata being mentioned in the International Press.  I hope Barack is finally able to pull it out.

With the Beijing Olympics approaching sport is on my mind.  This image is from the 1960s Mexico, when Mexico City was preparing for their Olympic Games.  Modernism was the spirit of the architecture of those times and many examples can still be seen today.

I heard recently that this type of photo is one of the most common photos taken by people.

It is still Jacaranda season in D.F.  They bloom once annually and for the rest of the year you're not really aware that the trees you're seeing are Jacarandas.  It is really special to be able to walk around the city and see as many flowers on the ground as there is on the boughs of large trees.  Although this does mean that the rainy season is just around the corner.

This is a work by John Baldessari.  I'm not sure where I nicked it from on the web, but I like his work as it is inspiring in taking the everyday and putting it into 'new' contexts.

Here's his website
