On March 31st, hundreds of thousands of people marched in Mexico City to say that the citizenry doesn't want to live in fear anymore.

With the Beijing Olympics approaching sport is on my mind.  This image is from the 1960s Mexico, when Mexico City was preparing for their Olympic Games.  Modernism was the spirit of the architecture of those times and many examples can still be seen today.

It is still Jacaranda season in D.F.  They bloom once annually and for the rest of the year you're not really aware that the trees you're seeing are Jacarandas.  It is really special to be able to walk around the city and see as many flowers on the ground as there is on the boughs of large trees.  Although this does mean that the rainy season is just around the corner.

This is another example from the project that I'm working on - Fragments of a Student's Day: Remnants Found at School.  I'm collecting refuse that I feel allows me, as a teacher and general observer, to gain entry into the minds of teenagers and in the process learn about what it's like to pass through adolescence and school - something we all go through.

Maratón


The Mexico City Marathon is this Sunday, August 26th. Todo los corredores necesitan nuestra apoyo, entonces espero que hay mucho gente que van a ver la carrera este fin!

I love maps. It makes the earth easy to swallow and you can travel to different places in a split second. This is a map of Mexico that I salvaged recently from sure destruction.

Mexico City existence owes itself to the buying and selling of goods since the time the city was called Tenochtitlan. Even some of the fruits and vegetables from that time are still being sold. So, it is with little wonder that they are interesting environments in which to buy one's groceries and to observe the comings and goings of the populace. Now if Mexico could erase (or at least diminish) the scourge of Coca-Cola...
